It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week and Christmas is just around the corner. The year has certainly flown by! My ambitions are always pretty high when it comes to Christmas crafts and my “want to-do” list is much longer than time ever allows. Seeing all the cute project ideas on Pinterest and Facebook just makes me want to pour a cup of tea, turn on some Christmas carols, and make pretty stuff! I’m sure that most crafters can relate 🙂 . One project that doesn’t require much time (thanks to the Silhouette) – yet makes a big impact – is a Shadow Box Card Scene design by Lori Whitlock. And it was the perfect project for this month’s gathering of the Creative Cutters group, where we discussed working with Print & Cut files, paper projects, and the PixScan mat.

Our meetings always begin with introductions and Show & Tell time. So far, we’ve added at least one new member each month. I’m so excited that more and more people in our area are learning about the Silhouette machines and getting together to ask questions, share ideas, and show off what they’ve been working on.

The Shadow Box Card Scene file provided the perfect opportunity to discuss the Silhouette’s Print & Cut feature, including tips on registration marks, design placement, and steps to ensure that your fonts and images print out properly.

I also presented a demonstration of the PixScan mat with pointers on how to use the Image Effects tool in Silhouette Studio to obtain better traceable images and how to use the freehand drawing tools when tracing proves difficult. The designs shown here were cut from Christmas cards and will make wonderful Christmas tags and embellishments.

After the demonstration, everyone chose two card kits to assemble. There’s a bit of a learning curve (especially when placing the snow scenes) but the results are well worth the effort.

They turned out so cute!!!

As a bonus, I showed everyone how to use the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board to make perfect A2 size envelopes for their cards. While you could use the Silhouette to cut envelope shapes, the punch board is super easy and so much fun to use!!!

Stickers made with images from Lori’s card designs (also a Print & Cut file) provided the perfect finishing touch!

Since everyone is sure to be busy with their own personal holiday projects and activities over the next few weeks, Creative Cutters is taking a break during December. Our next meeting is set for January 16, 2018. I promise it will be fun and informative!

In the meantime, I hope you’ll check out Lori’s website or search for her designs in the Silhouette Design Store. She is so creative and offers a wide variety of projects – you’re sure to find something you like!

I’d also love to see what YOU are working on, so leave me a comment below or share a picture on Facebook. A girl can never have too many project ideas, right? 😉

Until next time,
