Christmas is just around the corner but there’s still plenty of time to make these elegant monogrammed tile ornaments, whether you’ll be using them on your own tree or giving them as a gift! But even a quick project can pack a lot of learning opportunities, so I’m splitting this tutorial up into three parts. This post is Part 1 and will give you basic instructions for creating a monogrammed tile ornament. Click on the links below to read Parts 2 and 3.

Part 2 – How to Cut Craft Foam Using Your Silhouette Machine

Part 3 – How to Engrave Tile Using the Glowforge

What You’ll Need:

Creating the Ornament

Step 1: Add the design. The tiles featured in this tutorial were laser-etched on the Glowforge with a monogram combining the Amastery and Orments fonts. The design could also be cut from adhesive vinyl and applied directly to the tile or used as a stencil for sandblasting. To see how I combined the fonts, check out Part 3 – How to Engrave Tile Using the Glowforge.

For a different look, paint the tiles first, using a paint formulated for use on glass and ceramic. Once the tiles are painted, bake in the oven following the paint manufacturer’s directions to cure the paint. When the paint has cured, add the design.

Step 2: Cut craft foam to match shape of tile. You can easily cut the exact shape using your Silhouette machine by following the steps in this tutorial.

Step 3: Add ribbon. Cut an 8-inch length of ribbon for each ornament. Fold ribbon in half to form a loop. Adhere to back of tile using Art Glitter Glue. Allow to dry for 1-2 minutes.
