It was time for Creative Cutters this week and this month our project was tiny stacked paper boxes. And when I say “tiny”, I do mean TINY! These little boxes are just over 1 inch tall and less than 2 inches wide.

CraftcastMy friend and fellow Silhouette instructor, Cindy Pope created the box design. Cindy often works with metal clay and leather, but turned her attention to another medium for this project. With the exception of the metal bead on top, each box is made completely from layers of paper that are stacked on top of one another, using an alignment method developed by Sue McNenly and detailed in her online class “Silhouette Cutter How-to Basics and Beyond” (available for purchase at craftcast.com.)

Cindy has taken the alignment process even further and designed not only tiny boxes but other stacked paper projects as well, including photo frames and cake toppers.Cake Toppers

Both Cindy and I used Recollections cardstock from Michaels for these projects. It’s available in a wide variety of colors and cuts beautifully on the Silhouette machines.

As with all the Creative Cutters projects, I cut the materials beforehand and we spent our time putting everything together and enjoying the time with one another. With just a little bit of patience, some paper, and a squeeze bottle of Mod Podge, everyone was able to create their own unique stacked paper box.

It was fun to see the different color combinations come to life!

To make the evening even more special, we got to help one of our younger members, Holden, celebrate his birthday. It must’ve been his lucky night because he also won the door prize! I bet he’s going to make some really cool stamps with his new Mint!

At Creative Cutters, we’re always exploring new projects, materials, and techniques that use the Silhouette machines. These tiny stacked paper boxes are just one example. If you’d like to join us, consider this an open invitation. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 19, 2019 at 6:30 pm in Carthage, TX and we’d love to have you!

If you’d like to know more about the paper alignment method, check out Sue’s class at craftcast.com. or attend the June 2019 All Things Silhouette Conference, where Cindy will be demonstrating different projects using this technique. I’ll be there!

Until next time,
