Several years ago, I dressed as Ruth during Vacation Bible School and told her story in the first person. Stepping into her shoes helped me appreciate her courage and faith in a whole new way. Ever since, whenever I revisit the story of Ruth, I notice more of God’s care and provision woven throughout her life.

This Ruth Meets Boaz Sunday School lesson is a meaningful Bible lesson for kids that highlights how God provided for Ruth and Naomi through Boaz’s kindness. Children will learn about gleaning in the fields, the importance of showing kindness, and how to recognize God’s blessings in everyday life.

Ruth Meets Boaz Lesson Summary for Teachers

Ruth and Naomi had returned to Bethlehem, but life wasn’t easy. As widows, they had no one to provide for them. Ruth was determined to help, so she went to gather leftover grain in the fields. This was called “gleaning,” and it was a way for poor people to have something to eat.

Ruth began working in a field that belonged to a man named Boaz. Boaz was rich and important, but he was also very kind. When he saw Ruth working, he asked about her and learned that she had left her home country just to take care of Naomi.

Boaz was impressed! He told Ruth she could stay in his fields where she would be safe. He even made sure his workers left extra grain for her to gather. At mealtime, Boaz invited Ruth to eat with him and his workers, and Ruth saved some food to bring home to Naomi.

That evening, Ruth carried a huge bundle of grain back home. Naomi was amazed! When Ruth said she had worked in the fields of a man named Boaz, Naomi was overjoyed.

Naomi knew something that Ruth didn’t – Boaz was part of their family and one of their protectors! Naomi quickly realized this was God’s kindness at work. Ruth kept working in Boaz’s fields all through the harvest, and she and Naomi had plenty to eat.

God cared for Ruth and Naomi by placing Boaz in their lives. Boaz showed kindness and generosity to them both, and his actions remind us that God wants us to be kind to others too. Just like Ruth worked hard to help Naomi, and Boaz shared what he had, we can look for ways to care for the people around us.
